Ray is a Mathematics graduate from University College London, who trained as a Chartered Accountant in his home city of Manchester before beginning a management career in South Africa with Tiger Oats Group.

Moving into general management, he was Managing Director of Chloride Zambia Ltd. and Chloride Egypt SAE (battery manufacturer), before returning to South Africa where he was Group General manager of National Home Products Group (Pty) Ltd. as well as Secretary to the Bargaining Council for the Electrical Contracting Industry, Johannesburg – learning a lot about Industrial Relations. He was Managing Director of WAPCO plc in Nigeria – a cement manufacturer and subsidiary of Blue Circle/Lafarge. During his time Safety and the Environment were dramatically improved and ISO9002 and ISO14001 achieved, whilst constructing a new plant, cost $160million.

On return to the UK, he was Director of Estates Administration at his old college – UCL – before setting up the new campus in Doha as Chief Operating Officer of UCL Qatar. Since then Ray has worked in the NHS with West Leicestershire Clinical Commissioning Group and North West Anglia Foundation Trust. He is a Non-Executive Director of Futures Housing Group and Chair of Bishop Simeon Trust, a charity to help disadvantaged children in South Africa.
