Business management

Set up new campus for UCL in Qatar, involving staff transfer and recruitment, building fit-out liaison and negotiation, funding and facilities. The department opened on time with more students than originally planned, from a wide range of countries.

Technical Manager responsible for the Operation & Maintenance of World’s largest(at the time) artificial forest area.

Oversaw construction of a new plant in Nigeria, cost $160million, doubling the capacity of the company to 2million tonnes of cement per annum. Monitored the ongoing progress of the project, introducing management changes; successfully led negotiations with the contractors to reclaim overruns.

Management of Landscaping, Irrigation and Infrastructure Projects in the United Arab Emirates, Western Abu Dhabi Region Implementation of innovative technologies such as state of the art flexible reservoirs in desert regions.

Successfully ran own business for over 12 years.

Driving manufacturing leadership in the development of Standard Operating Procedures across a number of technologies defined as strategic .Driving the culture of continuous improvement as Focus Improvement Lead within the organization and leading several Green Belt projects internally and externally to improve manufacturing performances

Managed the development and launch of numerous new products and personally responsible for the creation and development  of 2 culinary global products.

Overseeing the management of large-scale water-management, landscaping, irrigation and infrastructure projects.

Evaluation of the impact of large-scale open cast mining operations (lignite) in Eastern Germany

Risk Management for the protection of groundwater from industrial pollution (chemical industry) at Ecologic Mega Sites in Eastern Germany.

Implemented Lean practices into  a number of  production units worldwide,  including changeover time reduction by 40%, product format harmonisation and reduction of numbers of raw and packaging materials by 45% in 3 years,  implemented cost saving activities in the factories  and across several markets to deliver sustainable savings in excess of 500K€ per year.

As CEO of an international training company, I led entry into a mature market in a new country. We gained as clients, four (of the originally) ‘Big Five’ global audit and consulting firms; taking our revenue in that market to £ 250 000 in the first six months. In doing so, we displaced a much larger, long-standing supplier of services to these clients.

Assessment & evaluation of impacts of underground mining (coal and ore) on ground- and surface water, and infrastructure focus on both, quality (pollution) and quantity (flooding) aspects.

Provision of risk-assessments for organizations, towns and communities for remediation approach and development & emergency planning in densely populated and industrialized areas including financial implications.

Created new Product Development groups structure to carry out new product developments. These structures were adopted as the standard in the company that I worked in.   Trained new staff members in all aspects of I&R project management and fast delivery.

Closed two manufacturing sites of 800 and 250 people in an orderly controlled manner maintaining GMP and customer service.

Providing liaison services for European and Chinese business contacts within the chemical industry.

Spotted an opportunity in the market for a smaller, more efficient and more flexible producer than large multi-national companies. Started up and built company from a ‘Greenfield’ site involved in design, manufacturing and installation of process equipment and developing new processes. Led general management together with international sales and marketing to deliver 40% gross profit. Closed the company to concentrate on China at the end of 2006.

The initiation, development, build and introduction of a Cloud Broker Platform called Cloudscanner. This platform has been recently been sold to a company called SpinPanel. Introduction to the market was done in 2017. See Cloudscanner.eu

As lead account director responsible for the largest middle east outsourcing deal with Emirates Airlines, which included the virtualization of their global contact centers, the introduction of a customer journey and hosting of their entire voice and data infrastructure. The deal was worth US$ 50 million over 5 years and has recently been renewed for another 5 years. This triggered similar deals with Etihad and Gulf Air.

Introduction and business development towards the Defense and Homeland Security market for the Middle East. I successfully introduced TITAAN (Theatre Independent Tactical Army and Airforce Network). The latter being a Rapid Deployment Data and Voice Network based on commercial satellite equipment for the purpose of recon missions in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The recovery of 2 mainframes in Iraq just after the 1st Gulf War which contained all Pension Fund information for the Kuwait population. Later that period I was responsible for the setup of the Sales Office in Kuwait for Oracle.

Financial Management

Managed the restructuring of WAPCO’s finances (totalling $200million) into longer-term debt and equity. Managed project to detailed plan, with deadlines and led negotiations with major banks in Nigeria. Significantly reduced interest charges and stronger balance sheet, ensuring the survival of the company. Dramatically improved Safety and Environment and achieved ISO9002 and ISO14001 certification.

University change management: reorganisation of Finance and Human Resource Administration in Estates and Facilities at UCL; introduction of monthly management accounts; management of Catering contract and Refectory refurbishment project; revised strategy for Student Accommodation.

A significant contributor to the development of the finance and accounting sections of a new Insurance Act in a Southern African country.

Facilitated the £135M sale of an ambient food business

Resourcing

Managing major change programme in Longbenton factory (1200 people), delivering significant cost reduction through new working hours demand driven, more effective team work and improved internal communication programmes.

Supported the development of people throughout career: training emphasis in Zambia and replacement of expatriates with Zambians on merit; appointment of first female manager at Chloride Egypt.

Implementing and driving Talent Management programme in Poland (1500 people), delivering clear succession plans , focused development strategy  and improved company performance

For a region covering 29 countries Lead the talent agenda for 500 partners and around 5,000 managers. Introduced a world class talent management approach. Improved retention rates and engagement scores for key talent across the region.

Design and delivery of a leadership programme for a global software company Involved 3 modules for middle to experienced managers delivered across the world. Highly experiential, residential learning events. Contributed to a global culture change programme. Involved collaboration with other consultancies and internal learning & development professionals. Lasted for over four years and attended by more than 6,000 participants

Taking control of the Training business line in the MENA region of a “big four” practice. At a time of great competitive and technological disruption and uncertainty, my team and I grew revenues by 30% within two years of my joining.

Establishing HR team from zero in Ukraine that delivered Talent Management programme, managed corporate merger and subsequent restructuring of business supported by new reward strategy

Mentoring

Established a mentoring program for a leading drinks brand along with the training of the participants.

A number of our people have acted as mentors to a range of senior business executives and we have a number of Management Mentors certified Mentors

Vitality

Created an integrated model for explaining and understanding creativity and innovation. Developed a unique set of tools and techniques for rekindling imaginations and fostering a culture of innovation. Deployed these in a range of businesses that shifted the capability to harness creativity and innovation including manufacturing, technology and pharmaceutical sectors.
